
Community-Based Learning (CBL) Student Liaison Program
Faculty who are teaching a community-based learning (CBL) class may be eligible for CCE funding for a CBL student liaison. The student(s) will serve as a liaison for a community-based learning class, maintaining close contact with community partners and/or sites. The student will be an essential link to help with the implementation of well-designed community-based components of the class.
Responsibilities will vary according to the specific CBL project, and students will work under direct supervision of the professor. Responsibilities may primarily involve increasing communication between the UR course/professor and the community site by emailing, calling or visiting; arranging, facilitating and following up on meetings; monitoring and supporting student experiences in the community, troubleshooting when necessary; enabling better relationships between students and community partner. Student may assist with class reflections, but will never be involved with grading.
Specific duties:
- Work closely with the CBL instructor(s) to define weekly tasks and manage logistics related to community-based learning.
- Travel to partner site for observations and discussions (note: travel is prohibited until yellow and green stages of COVID-19).
- Communicate with community partners regarding learning goals and classroom connections.
- Communicate with community partners to learn if their needs are being met, and relay this information to faculty.
- Follow up with students to check their progress on learning goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Strong interest in civic and/or social justice issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and in a leadership role with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
- Organizational skills.
- Discussion facilitation skills.
- Previous experience with the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement programs and in the community.
Pay grade and time commitment
Wage Level 3 ($9.30 – $11.30/hour). Weekly time commitment will vary from 2-5 hours/week, not to exceed a total of 40 hours for the semester.
