Access to Education, Opportunity to Serve

Each year, 25 students are selected to make a four-year commitment to being active citizens in the Richmond region.

Bonner Scholars are matched with nonprofits, schools, and government agencies that align with their interests in social issues and, for four years, intern at one organization in exchange for financial assistance. In addition to the meaningful connections and professional skills Bonner Scholars develop through their paid internships, they also participate in on-campus reflective exercises and educational programming to understand difference, power, and privilege; deepen their thinking about complex social issues; and prepare for active citizenship.

If selected to be a Bonner Scholar, you will be invited to participate in an online information session prior to confirming your spot in the Bonner Scholars Program. Students who are Richmond Scholars or Oliver Hill Scholars are not eligible to apply for the Bonner Scholars Program.

If you are a rising sophomore or junior looking to apply as a Bonner Scholar walk-on, the application will open in late May.
