Students are essential to the work and mission of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE). Available positions are listed below, and if you have Federal Work-Study, you may also consider our Community Work-Study Program and work directly with contracted nonprofit or governmental organizations to fulfill your hours.

Available Positions

Community Engaged Research Assistant 

The student will aid in the various community-engaged projects and assist in the developing of key structures to support this kind of research at the University. Duties will include supporting current research efforts including efforts to develop relationships with local indigenous nations, supporting the Richmond Cemetery Collaboratory, and researching key information needed to foster more community engaged research at UR.

CCE Student Operations Assistant, Transportation

The Student Operations Assistant will work closely with the Operations Coordinator to support the Center for Civic Engagement. This role will focus primarily on the transportation needs of students going off campus to participate in required community-based learning at service sites approved by the center. With direction from the Operations Coordinator, this role will provide assistance in distributing Uber vouchers to students, answer any concerns or requests when the Operations Coordinator is not available, and grow familiar with the services provided by the CCE that support community engagement. The Student Operations Assistant is expected to work 4-6 hours a week, with the exact schedule worked out between the assistant and Operations Coordinator.

Though not required, in additional to general office support and clerical tasks, this assistant will also have the opportunity to exercise quantitative and qualitative analysis skills on various data recording projects as needed. Projects and reports that this role might contribute to will not exceed the 4-6 hours of work anticipated by the assistant.

CCE Program Associate, VITA Team

This position will support the operation of the CCE's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. VITA is a program of the United Way which provides free tax preparation services to low and moderate income families. The CCE operates one of the 13 VITA sites in the region which is located in downtown Richmond. Our site is staffed with community and student volunteers who are trained by the United Way and the CCE. The Program Associate will work on campus out of the CCE office but has the opportunity to visit and work at the downtown location from time to time if interested. The VITA Program Associate is expected to work 4-6 hours a week. Hours are generally between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., but could include other evening/weekend programs with prior notification.

The VITA Program Associate will support the operation of the program through client communication, data tracking, data entry, logisitical support, scheduling client appointments, creating support materials, and other duties as assigned. This position starts November 4, 2024 and runs through the spring 2025 semester.

Photography Assistant 

The Photography Assistant will work closely with the Director of Communications and Community Relations for Equity & Community to support photography needs of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement. Flexibility will be given to the Photography Assistant based on their availability to shoot different events and community engagement, both on and off-campus. The Photography Assistant will have opportunities for ongoing professional development and may propose their own photography and video projects to catalyze civic action and celebrate community engagement at the University of Richmond.
