Syllabus Insert
This course includes a community-engaged component that requires working outside the traditional classroom. Engaging with community partners offers unique educational benefits, but it also may include inherent risks related to personal safety, travel, unfamiliar environments, and interactions with others.
As a participant in this course, you are responsible for exercising good judgment and taking reasonable precautions to protect your own safety and the safety of those around you. You are expected to act as a representative of the University and must comply with all University policies, as well as the policies and procedures of the host organization.
Safety Expectations
- Site Orientation: You must complete all safety training required by the host site.
- Risk Awareness: Be aware of your surroundings and identify potential hazards before starting work.
- Professional Conduct: Follow the university student code of conduct at all times.
- Safe Transportation: Use university-provided transportation options when available or arrange your own safe, reliable transportation to and from the site.
- Incident Reporting: Immediately report any accident, injury, unsafe condition, or other safety concern to the instructor or host organization..
- Questions or Concerns: If you believe an assignment or situation presents an unreasonable safety risk, reach out to your instructor as soon as possible.
By remaining enrolled in this course and participating in community-engaged learning activities, you acknowledge your responsibility to act safely, exercise sound judgement, and contribute to a safe environment for yourself and the community members you serve.
