VITA Program History
2012
The University of Richmond's Bonner Center for Civic Engagement opens a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at the University of Richmond Downtown, and students receive independent study credit for volunteer hours with support from Ray Slaughter, now retired associate professor of accounting in the Robins School of Business.
2013
A Robins School of Business tax course begins to require VITA hours for a service-learning component.
2022
VITA courses become available to students outside of the Robins School of Business.
2023
The VITA site transitions to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement’s Sasha Hollister continues to serve as the site coordinator. VITA 2 is added as a course option.
2024
VITA 3 is added as a course option.
2026
Michael Yager is hired by the Robins School of Business to serve as a second site coordinator, and the site begins operating 6 days a week with VITA 3 students now serving as co-site coordinators.
