Engage from Anywhere
If you're interested in exploring new interests, volunteering at a distance, or trying out a new virtual scenery, there are many opportunities online.
Remote volunteer opportunities from Richmond community partners will be posted in SpidersEngage.
The following sites engage volunteers across the world.
Library of Virginia
Make history from your couch! New documents are published each week, and volunteers are needed to create transcriptions. The Library of Virginia is currently working on Virginia Untold: The African American Narrative and the Equal Suffrage League Records.
Amnesty Decoders
Amnesty Decoders is an innovative platform for volunteers around the world to use their computers or phones to help our researchers sift through pictures, information, and documents.
LibriVox
LibriVox volunteers read and record chapters of books in the public domain (books no longer under copyright) and make them available for free on the Internet. You do not need any prior experience to volunteer for LibriVox. All you need is your voice, some free software, your computer, and maybe an inexpensive microphone.
UN Volunteers
The United Nations Volunteers program contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Online volunteering allows organizations and volunteers to team up to address sustainable development challenges – anywhere in the world, from any device.
Zooniverse
The Zooniverse is the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research. This research is made possible by volunteers — more than a million people around the world who come together to assist professional researchers. Our goal is to enable research that would not be possible, or practical, otherwise. Zooniverse research results in new discoveries, datasets useful to the wider research community, and many publications.
#GetWellWorld
Artist Paul Richmond is hosting a project called #GetWellWorld. Participants submit a piece of art as a "get well" message, and he will distribute the get well cards to people who are hospitalized with COVID-19.
