Faculty Excursions & Events

The CCE is dedicated to accompanying faculty in their community-engaged work by sharing possibilities for connection and collaboration and providing ongoing opportunities to enrich their teaching and to learn about the Richmond region.

RVA Connections

RVA Connections is a small group discussion series bringing together University faculty, staff, and community leaders around issues of shared interest in the hope of uncovering new collaborative opportunities. The CCE hosts one RVA Connections dinner per semester at UR Downtown.

Is there a topic you would like to suggest? Email Terry Dolson.

Faculty Excursions

The CCE sponsors local faculty excursions that are led by faculty with expertise in an issue area of their choice. Recent excursions have focused on the Latin American cultural landscape in Richmond, monuments and the politics of memorialization, and transformed spaces. Transportation and dinner are provided. Do you have an excursion idea? Contact Terry Dolson.

Happy Hours

The CCE’s Faculty Engagement Team welcomes colleagues back to campus at the start of each semester with a casual gathering in our offices on the third floor of Tyler Haynes Commons. Each happy hour is an opportunity to reconnect and to share community-engaged learning questions and resources.

Upcoming Events - Fall 2019

New Faculty Happy Hour

Thursday, October 3rd from 4:30pm - 6pm, THC 346

Join the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and Foundation, Corporate, and Government Relations (FCGR) staff as we welcome our new faculty and introduce them to the world of grants and community-engaged teaching and research. A few brief remarks will be offered from faculty colleagues who have worked with both offices as a springboard for you to learn about project and research ideas. Come have a drink, mingle, and share your ideas and projects in a relaxed environment.

Broader Impacts Workshop

Thursday, October 17th at 9:30am

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and Foundation, Corporate, and Government Relations (FCGR) will team up to offer insights on strengthening the broader impacts component of grant proposals. The FCGR will offer their expertise on the grant process and requirements; the CCE will help you think through the community engagement process. This session will help you think through how community engagement in your teaching and research can inform and enrich your proposal writing.
