  • Profile
Mr. Michael Smart (he, him, his) has worked in higher education for 7 years in both student and enrollment services at the community college level and larger four-year institutions. Most recently, Michael worked at Virginia Commonwealth University as an Academic Advisor/Student Program Coordinator in their School of Nursing. He also worked as an adjunct faculty member and served on a variety of committees which included the campus-wide Retention/ Graduation committee and the Black Male Initiative committee.  Michael received his B.S. in Business Administration from Norfolk State University and earned his M.Ed. with a concentration in Educational Leadership from VCU.  He lives by the quote “listen carefully, think logically, respond accordingly.” When he isn’t in the office, he loves traveling with his wife and friend, listening to music (he loves R&B & Jazz mostly but is a fan of all genres), and indulging in his love of trying new things (he recommends everyone to try zip lining at least once). Michael is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and is passionate about helping students avoid the pitfalls that traditionally hinder student success in higher education.
