College Mentoring Project
The College Mentoring Project is a partnership between the University of Richmond and nearby City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, and Henrico County public high schools. University of Richmond students serve as mentors, working one-on-one or in small groups with high school students engaged in the college-preparation process. University of Richmond College Mentors are trained to develop resumes, brainstorm and outline in response to essay prompts, research college options, and offer tips on general financial aid. UR College Mentors also provide tips about study skills, extracurricular activities, and the transition to college life based on their own real life experience.Under the umbrella of the College Mentor Project, partner high schools have access to educational and cultural activities at the University of Richmond. These activities may include tickets to performing arts events, campus tours, and information sessions led by senior administrators in admissions and financial aid. Program details and structure are developed with input and feedback from site coordinators to best meet the needs of each school.
