Center for Civic Engagement

Research

The Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) offers a number of 10-week paid summer fellowships that support independent student research and faculty-student collaborative research projects. These competitive grants are awarded to projects that ask questions addressing the nature of society today and how to effect change in social, cultural, legal, environmental, or political spheres.

The CCE inaugurated the Research Fellowships during 2005 when it awarded summer fellowships to three students. In 2006, the CCE awarded three summer fellowships to fund collaborative faculty-student research.  Beginning in 2007, the CCE has awarded fellowships to both students and faculty-student teams to conduct research.

The number of fellowships awarded has grown since the inception of the program, with funding provided for a total of seven research projects during summer 2008. Projects funded since 2005 stem from fields of study as diverse as the environment, gender studies, religion, politics, psychology, law, and fine arts, among others.
