David D. Burhans Civic Fellowships

The David D. Burhans Civic Fellowship program was established to honor chaplain emeritus David Burhans by providing funding for students completing otherwise-unpaid, academically grounded 10-week internships in the nonprofit or government sectors.

During the program’s inaugural year in 2005, four students participated as Burhans Civic Fellows. In 2009, 11 Burhans Civic Fellows completed internships locally, nationally, and internationally in issue areas ranging from the arts, to human rights, to health care, to community development and sustainability.

Summer 2010 Fellowships

The Bonner Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) uses a competitive application process to select a group of David D. Burhans Civic Fellows each year. To support their internship work and the required academic reflection, fellows are awarded $4,000 plus a maximum $500 housing reimbursement if they choose to live on campus. In addition, faculty mentors receive a $1,000 award.

Review the fellowship guidelines and apply online before 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
