Overview: The Natural Heritage Program represents a comprehensive effort to inventory and preserve the animal, plant and natural community resources of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As part of the Natural Heritage Network and NatureServe, the Virginia Natural Heritage Program contributes to an understanding of global biodiversity and helps to provide for the recovery of vanishing species and communities.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

The VNHP internship program allows college students and other volunteers to provide meaningful assistance to the Virginia Natural Heritage Program while gaining familiarity with the operations, methodology and staff of an internationally-recognized conservation program. Internships can be structured to meet volunteer interests and current program needs; some examples of internships are listed below. Field work is not generally a significant component of most internships, though some field work may be arranged. Students can often earn academic credit for their internship. Visit the Natural Heritage website for more information.
