| Overview: | Reach Out and Read Virginia works within pediatric primary care facilities to offer books and literacy education to families with preschool children. Participating pediatric practices provide new books during well-child visits to patients between the ages 6 months to 5 years and encourage the parents of these children to read aloud to them at home. The Reach Out and Read model is applied in more than 2,000 programs throughout the United States and is designed to make books a routine part of primary health care so that children grow up with a love of books and reading. |
